Sydney University Muslim Students Association (SUMSA) is the formal student body representing Muslim students on campus. It welcomes all people from different faiths and backgrounds who are interested in knowing about Islam from a different source other than the media. We organise lectures, BBQ’s and the infamous Islamic Awareness Week in second semester of every year.

The Shura committee is the decision-making body of SUMSA. It is normally comprised of up to 8 executive members including (and not limited to) positions such as the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. There are, of course, the SUMSA volunteers. The back bone, legs and arms of SUMSA. Their input and hard work has helped make SUMSA what it is.

SUMSA has its Annual General Meeting (AGM) during the last few weeks of semester each year. Any registered SUMSA member can be nominated for the Shura and the elections are held at the AGM.

The prayer room (musallah) is the epicenter for all Muslims on campus. The room is found on level 3 in the Old Teacher's College located on Manning Road. Just enter the building and follow the signs on level 3, it's not that hard to spot a room with an abnormal amount of shoe racks outside the door. Friday prayers are held in an assembly hall right next to the prayer room to accommodate the large number of Muslim students and staff.
